Adult Nature Journaling 101

Join National Park Service Naturalist Jerry Hightower and the volunteer staff for an opportunity to explore nature journaling! Nature journaling is a gateway to improving your observational skills, your enjoyment outdoors, and creates a wonderful record of your adventures in nature. Discover that poetry, recording, and sketching can be important components of nature journaling. We will offer outdoor exercises in observation and recording in your journal that will improve your abilities and your journaling skills. Join us to expand your abilities and just have fun recording your time in nature!
Location: Chattahoochee River Environmental Education Center, 8615 Barnwell Road, Johns Creek, Georgia, 30022. These workshop sessions will be held on the upper deck of the education center and in the meadow and forest. For directions see www.nps.gov/chat.
Parking is limited and carpooling is encouraged.
Facilities: Located in the Center’s Lodge.
Difficulty: Easy level walking
Bring: Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on a forest trail. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and activity level. Bring water and you might include snacks.
Limit: Youth journaling: 30 (parents/caregivers not included), Adult journaling: 30
Heat warning: As summer temperatures soar and heat incidents increase across the park, CNPC urges attendees to stay safe by being well-prepared for high temperatures. Please bring plenty of water (often more than you think you'll need!), list a reliable emergency contact, and know your limits. Be aware of the serious signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, including heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, and confusion. Events may be canceled if temperatures become too extreme. Your safety is our priority.

This event will take place rain or shine, however it will be rescheduled in the event of severe weather including thunderstorms or flood warnings. Participants will be notified by email the morning of the event (or sooner) should an event need to be rescheduled due to weather.
