Trout Lily Creek lOOP tRAIL Hike

Saturday, December 7th

10:00 - 12:30 PM

Join National Park Service Naturalist Jerry Hightower for one of the most scenic walks in the entire park! Enjoy the beautiful forest, grand vistas of Thornton and Devil’s Race Course Shoals, and the dramatic palisades created by the Brevard Fault. We will descend the ridge, loop around at the base of Thornton Cliffs, walk past Diving Rock Beach to Sandy Point, and return up the ridge. Winter is the very best time to appreciate the extraordinary topography of the Palisades Unit of the park. Along the trail we will look for wildlife signs and, with the leaves mostly gone, we will be able to better appreciate this area of the river corridor; so please join us.

Location: We will meet in the parking area bulletin board; 2361 Akers Drive, Atlanta, Georgia, 30339

Facilities: Located at Devil’s Stair Step three quarters of the way thought the hike

Difficulty: Fairly leisurely hike with one moderate uphill climb from the river. These walks are quite slow with numerous stops to discuss items of interest along the way. Note: This walk is not suitable for very young children.

Bring: Please bring adequate water. Remember to dress for the weather and wear very comfortable hiking shoes. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and your activity level. You may wish to bring binoculars, hand lens, notebook, and camera. Note: A daily entrance fee or annual pass is required.

Limit: 30 persons
