Ranger Program: Making Art with Leaves, Twigs, Natural
Pigments, & Mud

Saturday, August 3rd

6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Persons of all ages are invited to join National Park Service Naturalist Jerry Hightower and the volunteer staff for an opportunity to create art from natural objects and pigments! We’ll collect downed leaves, twigs, and other items to glue onto paper to make collages. Create painting using natural pigments. We will also create works of art using mud from the wetlands. Create your own mud painting! Join us to express your creativity naturally and enjoy the beauty of the Chattahoochee River. You might like to bring a picnic. After the program you could explore the Rottenwood Creek Trail.

Note: A daily entrance fee or annual pass is needed.

Facilities: Located in the Center’s Lodge.

Difficulty: Easy level walking

Bring: Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on a forest trail. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and activity level. Bring water and you might include snacks. You are also welcome to bring your own marshmallows to roast. We have roasting forks that you may use.

Heat warning: As summer temperatures soar and heat incidents increase across the park, CNPC urges attendees to stay safe by being well-prepared for high temperatures. Please bring plenty of water (often more than you think you'll need!), list a reliable emergency contact, and know your limits. Be aware of the serious signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, including heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, and confusion. Events may be canceled if temperatures become too extreme. Your safety is our priority.

This event will take place rain or shine, however it will be rescheduled in the event of severe weather including thunderstorms or flood warnings. Participants will be notified by email the morning of the event (or sooner) should an event need to be rescheduled due to weather.
