Kid’s Pond & Creek Discovery Hike
CRNRA Island Ford Unit
Join National Park Service Naturalist Jerry Hightower for an exciting adventure around Island Ford Pond and along Falling Branch. We will investigate the branch upstream from the pond, the amazing diversity of organisms living in the pond, and will then follow Falling Branch through the beautiful hardwood forest to the Chattahoochee River. We will use nets, observation trays, and digital microscopes to find the macro-organisms living in the stream and pond.
Location: Island Ford Unit 1978 Island Ford Parkway; Sandy Springs, GA 30350. Meet at information signs in second parking lot. For directions see www.nps.gov/chat
Facilities: Located in the Hewlett Lodge Visitor Center.
Difficulty: Easy Walking
Bring: Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on a forest trail. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and activity level. Bring water and you might include snacks.
Note: A daily entrance fee or annual pass is required.
