40th Anniversary Walk & Talk Series

On August 15, 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed the law to protect the Chattahoochee River and its land for all of us to enjoy by establishing the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA). Our 40th Anniversary Walk & Talk Series will celebrate this event with an inaugural Walk and Talk Series that is FREE and open to the public; however, space is limited and registration is required. Ages 10 & up are welcome.

On August 12, attend a Park Beginnings presentation by Ranger Jerry Hightower about the people, events and decisions that resulted in the creation of the CRNRA. A walk along the river at the Island Ford Unit will be followed by an ice cream social. On September 16, explore Park Geology with Bill Witherspoon, co-author of Roadside Geology of Georgia, who will lead a walk in the East Palisades Unit/Whitewater and Indian Trail. On October 21, learn to identify Park Trees in the West Palisades Unit/Akers Mill with EcoAddendum Director Kathryn Kolb.
